Bravo to ABRSM on the publication of their latest Piano Syllabus!
Not only are the expanded lists very comprehensive, they contain a wide range of stylistic choice and, given the possibilities for honing that choice further through a 4th piece in Performance Grade exams, the range available is huge.
The previous practice of including a CD has now been replaced with digital downloads, bringing what is on offer so much more up to date and relevant. Perhaps in time music publishers, not just ABRSM, will realise the potential for single copy sheet music digital downloads for individual pieces, for digital use too. That would add real power and choice at a time where many are less inclined to explore repertoire outside the printed exam book, not least due to cost.
It has been a real pleasure to discover new repertoire, and to rediscover and be reminded of old favourites through the process of compiling this review. This is an entirely independent review, written with the express purpose of providing a free and rich multi-media resource for teachers and learners worldwide. Our hope is to inspire you to discover the rich repertoire of music out there, not only through original pieces, but through the many fine arrangements for solo and piano duet.
